Domestic Rule Change

Welsh Boxing confirms rule change on facial hair ban is now in effect.

Welsh Boxing confirms that from 1st August 2019, it has removed the WABA Domestic Rule, which prevents boxers with facial hair (beards and moustaches) from competing in the sport. This decision has been taken after receiving legal advice, consultation with the international regulatory body, AIBA, and an internal review of its domestic policies and rules.

Chairman Derek McAndrew said “This is an important rule change, which is in line with the WABA Board’s strategy of inclusivity for boxing in Wales, and takes effect in time for the new domestic season, which starts in September.”
