Welsh Talent train with Podium Potentials
Four welsh boxers attended the GB Boxing Podium Potentials Camp in Sheffield this week alongside 12 of some of the most talented Youth & Elite boxers from England and Scotland. It was an opportunity for Zack Davies and Ashley Williams to continue their preparations ahead of the European Championships which take place in Belarus later this month. Aaron Bird and Ricky Rowlands alos had the opportunity to train at one of the best Olympic Boxing facilities in the world. New AIBA European Rankings
The new AIBA European Rankings have been released ahead of this months EUBC European Elite Men’s Championships in Belarus. Our very own boxers Andrew Selby (52kg – St Josephs Newport) and Fred Evans (St Josephs Newport) are currently ranked no.1 in Europe. You can view the full rankings list here At the May Performance Commission meeting, the 2013 European Championships Team for Wales was selected and is as follows: 49kg – Ashley Williams 52kg – Andrew Selby 56kg – Sean McGoldrick 60kg – Joe Cordina 64kg – Zack Davies The team will be supported by: Colin Jones (National Coach) Mark James (Programme Coach) Stuart Peacock (Video Analyst) The Championships will take place in Minsk, Belarus, from 31st May to 9th June.

The GB Junior Championships have now been confirmed for the following location & dates: Venue: Orford Jubilee Hub Jubilee Way, Warrington, WA2 8HE Dates: 13th – 15th June Schedule: Thursday 13th June – 17:00 arrive Friday 14th June – 07.00 – 08.30 WeighIn & Medicals (England 7am, Scotland, 8am, Wales 8.30am) 08.00 – 10.00 Breakfast 10.30 Draw at boxing venue 12.30 Boxing Semi Finals commence 19.00 Evening Meal Saturday 15th June - 08.00 – 19.30 Breakfast 10.00 Medicals at Venue 12.00 Boxing Finals Commence 17.00 Departure of teams The Welsh Junior Team will be announced shortly.

Boxer Database released!
After months of developing, the WABA Boxer Database has been released via the website. The database contains over 170 boxers with individual profiles that can be used to set up matches with other club boxers. Clubs and users can search boxers in a number of ways: 1) Year of Birth 2) Weight 3) Class 4) Stance 5) Region 6) Gender Clubs can also add their boxers using this site. New AIBA Rules Seminar – North Wales
John Waith will be holding a seminar on the new AIBA rules and scoring system on Saturday 18th May at the Ty Hapus community centre Llandudno,LL30 1H. The seminar will start at 9-30 am, first subject will be the new AIBA scoring system, then a tea break, followed by an update of the New AIBA technical and competition rules. Referees, Coaches & Boxers are welcome.

Welcome to The Welsh Amateur Boxing website

Welcome to Welsh Boxing, the home of the Welsh Amateur Boxing Association (WABA). The WABA is the National Governing Body (NGB) for amateur boxing in Wales. It is a National Member Federation of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) and also a home nation member of the British Amateur Boxing Association (BABA) which is funded by UK Sport to deliver the GB Boxing team at the Olympic Games.

After the success of amateur boxing at the London 2012 Olympic Games with Great Britain winning 5 medals and Wales’ own Fred Evans winning silver, it is an exciting time for men and women to become involved in our thriving boxing community.

There are lots of ways to get involved in amateur boxing, as a boxer, coach, judge, referee or even helping make sure the club runs smoothly, everyone is welcome!
